The 360 Degree Safe tool is a free interactive online safety audit tool provided by the SWGfL. It is used by over 11,000 schools and is highly recommended by eLIM, Ofsted and many other agencies.
There are four elements: Policy and Leadership, Education, Technology and Outcomes. These elements are split into Strands and then Aspects, which the school uses to grade itself on a five point scale. A description of the current position for each aspect is recorded and notes on where the evidence to support this statement are added. Ideas for how the school can improve are also indicated. The school can download a progress support and plan development over time.
The tool should not be completed by one person but collaborated on by a group from across the school, including Governor representation. When the group identifies that the school has achieved the target level for all aspects, the school can apply for the 360 Degree Safe Award, a nationally recognised accreditation that validates the online safety work that the school completes.
The eLIM team can support schools at all stages of the 360 Degree Safe process. Please get in touch if you would like more information.
360oEarlyYears and 360oGroups are similar free tools to 360Safe but have been devised specifically for Early Years settings and other groups that work with children and young people. eLIM encourage all groups that deal with young people to look use these tools to review and improve your online safety provision. Both tools also allow organisations to celebrate their achievements through progressive certification.
In our six minute video, Headteacher, Gemma Coward, and Online safety lead, Tammy Court, describe the ways in which the 360safe online safety review tool has empowered the whole school community at St Bartholomew’s First School, Crewkerne. We hope you feel inspired as you listen to Gemma and Tammy describe the details of their experience.
